Requirements specific to Nurses in West Virginia

Required Courses: 2

  • RNs are required 12 contact hours each year, 2 of which must be related to mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans. Licensees authorized to prescribe, dispense, and/or administer controlled substances are required 3 hours of drug diversion training at initial licensure, and 1 hour every renewal thereafter. 
  • LPNs are required 24 contact hours every two years, 3 of which in chemical dependence/substance abuse disorders and 2 must be related to mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans. There is a one-time requirement of 2 contact hours in end-of-life care with pain management at initial renewal.
  • APRNs are required 24 contact hours each year, 12 of which must be in pharmacotherapeutics and 12 must be clinical management practice.
